Creating 3D printed products from healthcare waste

Plastic waste in the operating room

Hartplastic is an organisation founded by cardiologists and catheterization laboratory technicians with the aim of reducing and recycling plastic waste in healthcare. We as healthcare professionals make life more pleasant for people with heart conditions. But in order to achieve that, we use products that must meet strict requirements. All wrapped in plastic. The clean plastic is easy to recycle and deserves a new use.

Seperating Plastic

The clean plastic is immediately separated in the catheterization laboratory and ends up in a separate container.

Processing Plastic

The clean plastic that we collect in the hospital is processed into granulate by a shredder. This granulate is a perfect raw material to develop new products. It could become a pill box, an armrest for the catheterization laboratory or new furniture.

3D printing

By using 3D printers, we can use the granulate in an efficient and environmentally friendly way to make new products.

What happens to the profits?

Any profit that is left after collecting and recycling the plastic and producing and selling the new recycled products will be used by us to research how to make medical care more sustainable.
